I’m Claire, an Australian writer, editor & poet who moved to Zurich, Switzerland in 2014 after living in London for seven years. After 5.5 fantastic, creative, rewarding, tumultuous, difficult and wonderful years in Switzerland, my family and I returned to Australia in mid 2019.

This blog started out as an expat experience blog, where I talked about the quirks and challenges of “expatting” and attempts to learn German as well as some parenting stuff.

However, during the past couple of years, I’ve been focusing more on my poems, fiction and travel-writing.

In 2017 I undertook to visit each Canton of Switzerland, which resulted in the #26Cantons52Weeks project.

In 2018, I had to return to full-time work so there was a dip in the blogging.

In 2019 with this big move, I blogged less, but still managed a poem every week or two.

In 2020 during COVID, I completed the first draft of my novel – a near-future spec-fic / YA with feminist themes.

Watch this space for links to my published short fiction and more writing news.

Thanks so much for reading and stopping by. I really appreciate all the likes and especially those who take time to comment. I will always try check out your blog if you like or comment on mine (even if it sometimes takes me a while).

Rock on!

If you love what you see here and would like to feature some of my words (or pictures), or you’d like me to write something specifically for you, or you just want to get in touch for any other reason – please contact me

  1. Hi there, I just wanted to tell you I have nominated you to take part in the ‘3 Days 3 Quote Challenge’. If you want to give it a go here is the link to mine where the rules are stated. Have fun xxx https://aballetoflife.com/2017/01/04/the-3-days-3-quote-challenge/
Ps. It’s quite a coincidence that I send you this today as I just arrived in Switzerland a few hours ago and will be performing in Basel over the weekend xx

  2. Just found your blog via an article on The Local. Can’t wait to read about another Zurich expat’s experience, and kudos to the 26 cantons challenge! I started one myself for hiking in the summer. 6 down, 20 to go 😀 Good luck!

    1. Thanks for stopping by and, this may sound weird, but I really appreciate you mentioning how you found me! Would love to do a hike in every canton. Maybe a new project for next year 🙂

  3. Hi Claire
