Delft blue
the colour of my mother
Voodoo
a family angry dance
I do
without her
tapping into
teenage rage
and drunken tirades
a welter of
excessive expression
posturing
and obsession
that may have nothing to do
with my mother
but the calm opulence
of delft blue
So good Claire – delft is a great word – suggests “deft” and “felt” and has that awkward extra half syllable so you can’t skip past it despite it’s brevity – and its opulence.
Thanks Peter, it is a beautiful word. And colour! 🙂
(And it’s Dutch for “mining” – referring to mining the cobalt for the blue dye – – a bit like your poem – mining memory perhaps.)
Your photo and title caught my eye as Amsterdam is one of my favorite places to visit. Sadly I won’t make it there this year. Also liked the new photo of you. Very nice change.
Thanks David! This was my own home-haircut in lockdown – pleased with the result! 🙂
It looks very nice! I might have to resort to that myself as my regular scheduled haircut that I missed was today.
I really like your blog. A pleasure to come stroll on your pages. A great discovery and a very interesting blog. I will come back to visit you. Do not hesitate to visit my universe. See you soon.
Thanks Angelilie!
